March 2017 events

I’m on the road again this month for a series of events related to Ranking Digital Rights, my dissertation fieldwork, and my ongoing research on the geopolitics of information.
I start the month in Valencia for the Internet Freedom Festival (March 6-10), where I will facilitate a session on “Using the Ranking Digital Rights Accountability Index for Advocacy and Research.” The 2017 Index comes out on March 23. I’ll also participate in a conversation between activists and academics on “Building the Internet Policy Research Community.” And of course, I’ll be doing dissertation fieldwork throughout the IFF.
Next, I leave sunny Spain for two weeks at Central European University in Budapest. I look forward to presenting my new article, “Networked authoritarianism and the geopolitics of information: Understanding Russian internet policy,” at the School of Public Policy. All are welcome to attend. My RDR colleagues and I will also host an event to celebrate the 2017 Index launch on March 23. I hope to get some writing done while I’m in Budapest, but we’ll see how that goes…
My third stop is at RightsCon in Brussels, where I am involved in two major events: the Index’s official European launch on March 29, and a roundtable discussion on doing company-oriented research and advocacy. This will be the biggest, best RightsCon yet, so it’s sure to be a busy week full of thought provoking dissertation fodder.
It’s going to be a whirlwind, but I’m looking forward to all the connections and insights!
